About the role
The Assistant Area Engineer assists in directing area office operations, manages and/or supervises employees involved in various activities, and reports to the Area Engineer.
Responsibilities
- Projects personnel and equipment needed for each project.
- Responds to emergency situations/conditions to assist with office activities.
- Counsels employees on safety issues and conducts pre-construction, Employee Forum and/or safety meetings.
- Determines quantities and estimates cost.
- Inspects roads, monitors maintenance activities, and coordinates scheduling of maintenance work with construction projects.
- Maintains traffic control plans.
- Oversees right-of-way, design and/or plan preparation for area office.
- Schedules and trains construction personnel.
- Prepares and/or reviews monthly and final estimates and construction reports.
- Resolves public complaints.
- Works with governmental officials on behalf of the Area Engineer.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science.
- Experience: 4 years transportation engineering.
- Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license; Professional Engineer license from the State of Texas within six (6) months of hire.

- Applicable plans, specifications and estimates preparation, review, processing and compliance requirements.
- Applicable inspection methods, procedures and techniques.
- Construction engineering policies and procedures.
- Applicable engineering workstations and applications to support efficient planning and design activities.
- Applicable testing methods, processes and procedures.
- Applying engineering principles, practices, and methods in job responsibilities.
- Public relations for maintaining effective working relationships with individuals and groups, both internal and external.
- Analyzing and organizing business and technical data.
- Using computers, applicable programs, applications, and systems.
- Exercising logic and reasoning to define problems, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; makes decisions that support business objectives and goals.
