Assignment Manager

Responsibilities

• Plans and assigns the news stories of the day.
• Reviews all news releases and news wires.
• Covers selected stories efficiently with available staff.
• Coordinates crews and logistics for efficient coverage.
• Maintains awareness of local contacts and potential stories.
• Monitors police and fire scanners.
• Attends planning meetings with News Director, Anchors, and Reporters.
• Writes and edits stories as assigned.
• Monitors other local and national news sources.
• Monitors digital platforms for story ideas.
• Provides vacation relief for news program producing.
• Provides vacation relief and assistance for digital news platforms.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree (or higher)
• 4+ years professional work experience
• 3+ years’ experience as assignment editor in a newsroom
• Maintain a valid driver’s license, insurance, and reliable transportation

Qualifications

• Journalism degree preferred
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Pay attention to detail
• Demonstrated writing and editorial judgement experience
• Strong work ethic with emphasis on team commitment
• Familiarity with newsroom producing software
