About the role
We are seeking a dynamic, fast-paced Assignment Desk / Line Producer to help lead daily newsroom operations across broadcast, digital, and streaming platforms. This role sits at the center of breaking news coverage — coordinating newsgathering, managing logistics, shaping editorial priorities, and producing high-energy newscasts that connect with today’s audiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor breaking news, scanners, social media, wires, and community sources
- Coordinate daily coverage plans, crews, live shots, and field logistics
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with law enforcement, public agencies, and community contacts
- Identify stories with high audience relevance and digital potential
- Assist with newsroom communication during breaking news and severe weather coverage
- Coverage for broadcast, digital, and streaming
- Generate story ideas that reflect the local community and diverse audiences
Producer Responsibilities
- Produce and stack daily newscasts with urgency, pacing, and strong editorial flow
- Write and edit clear, compelling teases and copy under deadline
- Collaborate with executive producers, anchors, MMJs, and digital teams
- Make real-time editorial decisions during live coverage
- Build visually engaging rundowns with a strong sense of timing and audience retention
- Ensure accuracy, fairness, and journalistic standards in all content
- Incorporate social, digital, and streaming elements into newscasts
Required Education And Experience
- 2–5+ years of experience in a television newsroom preferred
- Prior assignment desk and/or line producing experience strongly preferred
- Strong editorial news judgment and understanding of breaking news coverage
- Ability to multitask and remain calm in high-pressure situations
- Familiarity with ENPS, iNews, or similar newsroom systems
- Knowledge of digital publishing and social media newsgathering
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays as news coverage requires
- Bilingual English/Spanish skills
- Experience coordinating live field operations during major breaking news events
