Asset Protection Supervisor

About the Role

Coordinates and supervises employee activities related to locating buried natural gas facilities and damage prevention for Atlanta Gas Light to ensure compliance with applicable local, Federal, State, and Company regulations, policies, and procedures. Supports the Manager Locating by providing corporate oversight, standardization, and management for the responsibilities of the In-house Locating team. The supervisor is responsible for the development of new locating employees.

Responsibilities

• Oversees, monitors, and assists on all Asset Protection responsibilities, including locating underground natural gas facilities, locator quality audits, and ensuring tasks are performed with quality, compliance, and accurate record-keeping.
• Responds to inquiries from stakeholders, including state regulators, excavators, and homeowners on damage prevention topics.
• Facilitates meetings related to Asset Protection contracts and projects prior to their commencement and negotiates alternatives to field conflicts.
• Provides accurate data and information for contested incident reviews and damage prevention cases.
• Conducts performance and safety audits and performs initial investigations related to motor vehicle accidents (MVAs) and OSHA-recordable injuries (OJIs).
• Coordinates Asset Protection new technology testing and implementation.
• Serves on special projects as requested.
• Provides supervision, coaching, and support to Asset Protection Locating department employees, establishing goals and objectives.
• Improves and recommends techniques and processes for Asset Protection Specialists and trains new processes.
• Monitors monthly compliance and statistical reports to ensure adherence to performance measurements (e.g., on-time performance and at-fault damage ratios).
• Reviews quality issues with the Manager, Locating, to identify and implement strategies to prevent damages and improve locate accuracy.
• Monitors and follows up on high-profile facilities notifications.
• Conducts damage prevention education sessions with locate contractors, excavators, landowners, and homeowners.
• Coordinates training compliance for OQ, OSHA, PSC, DOT, and Company Policy for Asset Protection employees.
• Conducts audits, reviews, and tests to ensure compliance with the Atlanta Gas Light Operation Procedure Manual and Step Procedures.
• Represents the company at advisory and association committee meetings.
• Monitors safety initiatives such as drive cam and coaches employees to ensure adherence to company policies.
• Guides and coaches the team to achieve corporate goals and performance objectives.
• Demonstrates and supports all safety initiatives and recommends process improvements.
• Audits and improves damage reporting for accuracy and timeliness.
• Drives and supports the Company’s Safety-First culture, leading by example.
• Ensures compliance with statements of work, master services agreements, miscellaneous contracts, inspections, and audits.
• Tracks and monitors assigned areas of the departmental budget, controls overtime, and communicates budget impacts of field initiatives.
• Monitors OQ compliance and training documentation for Locating department employees.
• Represents the Company and provides support before State Commissions, contractors, courts, and facility locating services.
• Ensures the Compliance Tracking System, SharePoint Site, and all required documentation are maintained and up to date.
• Ensures procedures in the Operation Procedure Manual and step procedures are reviewed and remain current.
• Follows organizational policies and procedures and ensures team compliance.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Valid Driver’s license.
• 5+ years of experience in Gas Distribution and/or Transmission operations.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability to multi-task, experience using Microsoft Office suite, and leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree.
• Experience locating underground natural gas facilities.
• Experience supervising and managing performance in a utility environment.
• Knowledge and experience within natural gas operations.
• Experience working with federal and state regulatory agencies.
• Technical field knowledge of gas distribution and/or transmission operating systems.
• Knowledge and experience in handling natural gas emergencies.

Working Conditions

• A combination of physical and office work is required.
• Excessive driving up to four (4) hours at a time.
• Overnight travel (10%-20%).
• Exposure to outdoor elements (rain, sun, heat, cold).
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
