Assembly Manufacturing Technician

About the role

Under general supervision, the employee performs a variety of production assembly operations on electronic components and final assemblies, while supporting final assembly employees. This role requires familiarity with all final assembly lines and related processes, along with the ability to clearly articulate directions and expectations. The ideal candidate will have three or more years of direct leadership experience and be capable of training others. Responsibilities include supporting day-to-day line operations, meeting deadlines, maintaining quality, cross-training employees, troubleshooting issues in Final and Sub-Assembly departments, and assisting Engineering with prototyping and new model development. The role also involves generating Engineering Change Requests (ECRs), creating and revising work instructions, writing travelers, and other technical support tasks.

Responsibilities

• Performs bench production assembly of products or parts, including setting and synching assembled parts.
• Maintains quality standards with minimal discrepant work.
• Meets or exceeds established production quotas.
• Reads, writes, and follows written and verbal instructions in English.
• Works with minimal repeated instructions and maintains a clean, orderly work area.
• Safely works with high and low-pressure systems using air, hydraulic, Skydrol, and water.
• Communicates clearly, both verbally and in writing, and listens carefully for clarification.
• Demonstrates proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Reads and interprets safety rules, operation instructions, specifications, travelers, and blueprints.
• Applies common sense to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
• Consistently works overtime and travels if required.
• Troubleshoots issues in Final and Sub-Assembly areas.
• Assists Engineering with prototypes and new model development.
• Leads and supports a team of more than 8 people, potentially across multiple lines/work cells.

Requirements

• ITAR compliance required.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Three or more years of training in a similar industry or technical training.
• Performs visual inspection of all parts and components prior to assembly.
• Ability to acquire proficient knowledge of all line operations.
• Good understanding of electronics and ability to work with devices such as multimeters, dielectric, insulation resistance, and output check equipment.
• Awareness of Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) requirements.
• Adequate manual dexterity to safely and proficiently use standard production small hand tools and fixtures.
• Ability to adapt to changes productively and handle day-to-day work challenges.
• Conducts self in a professional and civil manner.

Skills

• Leadership experience with a track record of training others.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Ability to read and interpret technical documents, including blueprints and specifications.
• Troubleshooting and problem-solving in assembly environments.
• Experience with prototyping and new product development.

Physical Requirements

• Continuously required to stand, sit, walk, flex/extend hands and fingers, grasp, bend, stoop, reach, turn, twist, push, pull, talk, and hear.
• Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• An annual eye exam may be required.
