What is the role about?
As a Cable Prep Assembler, you will be responsible for performing optical testing and basic electro-optical assembly functions using testing, soldering, de-soldering equipment, and other small hand tools. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys precision soldering and hands-on mechanical assembly, and who takes pride in craftsmanship and consistency.
Which tasks will you perform?
- Read and interpret work orders, manufacturing procedures, work instructions and prints.
- Enter and update completed work orders in SAP.
- Assure that materials are available for production use and moved to shipping areas at established times.
- Cut and strip cables using both hand tools and cut and strip machines.
- Prepare shrink tube labels with a heat shrink labeling machine and shrink onto cables.
- Prepare cables for connection to sensors by tinning wires with a soldering iron.
- Prepare cable ends with the installation of a BNC connector using the pneumatic crimp machine.
- Install pin tips and various other connectors with the use of a hand crimper.
- Inspect completed orders for adherence with quality standards.
- Package and label products in preparation for shipping.
What do we expect from you?
- You: High School Diploma and/or GED required.
- Production assembly experience required (electronics or electro-mechanical assembly experience preferred).
- Soldering experience required, including wire preparation (tinning) and soldering/de-soldering techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret work orders, blueprints/prints, schematics, manufacturing procedures, and work instructions.
- Knowledge of safe production assembly practices and basic staging/inspection procedures.
- Comfort working with small components and precision hand tools/fixtures; strong manual dexterity and attention to detail.
- Read and understand prints, schematics, manufacturing procedures, and instructions.
- Experience posting or transacting work orders/operations in SAP preferred (or willingness to learn).
- Knowledge of chemical and material hazards, Safety Data Sheets, and proper handling and storage procedures.
- Set-up and operate small wiring and cable processing machines.
- Complete daily work assignments within agreed upon time frame.
- Able to lift to 30 lbs. and stand for extended periods as needed during assembly and inspection.
- Communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
