Asphalt Plant Laborer
About the Role
The Asphalt Plant Laborer supports daily plant operations to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production of asphalt materials in accordance with company standards and project specifications. This role assists plant operators, maintains equipment and work areas, and helps ensure consistent production while maintaining a strong focus on safety and quality. This role is classified as safety sensitive.
Responsibilities
- Follow all safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe work environment; wear required PPE and adhere to all plant safety procedures and regulations.
- Keep plant grounds, equipment, and work areas clean, organized, and free of debris; assist with housekeeping duties to promote safe and efficient operations.
- Assist plant operators with daily production activities, including monitoring material flow, handling raw materials, and supporting plant start-up and shutdown procedures.
- Load and unload materials, operate skid steers or other small equipment as assigned, and ensure proper stockpiling and storage of aggregates and other materials.
- Assist in monitoring material quality and plant processes to help ensure asphalt products meet design standards and specifications; report any irregularities or concerns to plant management.
- Perform routine inspections and basic maintenance tasks on plant equipment; identify mechanical issues and report concerns promptly to supervisors.
- Work closely with plant operators, mechanics, truck drivers, and supervisors to ensure smooth and continuous plant operations; communicate any production issues, delays, or safety concerns immediately.
- Assist in maintaining accurate records of plant activities, materials handled, and any operational issues as required.
Requirements
- Ability to travel to and from plant locations as required.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with team members.
- Ability to listen to, understand, and follow directions to ensure safety and efficiency.
- Basic mechanical aptitude preferred.
- Previous experience in asphalt, construction, or industrial environments preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
Work is performed in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to outdoor elements, dust, noise, and heat. Functions essential to this position include but are not limited to standing, sitting, stooping, bending, walking, climbing, and lifting heavy objects (50 pounds or more) during the course of the workday. Work may involve exposure to moving mechanical parts and elevated work areas.
