About the role

In this role, you will assist with asphalt paving projects, operate paving equipment, and ensure quality workmanship on every job site. Year-round work opportunities in other divisions of the company are available during winter months.

Starting rate at $22/hr combined with an extra "Paving" rate totaling $30/hr when laying "hot mix" asphalt.

Responsibilities

  • Operate various types of asphalt paving equipment including asphalt pavers, rollers, skid steers and attachments, milling machines, and tack/tarring machines.
  • Prepare, maintain, and clean job sites to ensure efficient workflow, including removing and properly disposing of debris and waste material.
  • Shovel, rake, and finish asphalt materials on construction projects, which may include concrete, dirt, and other aggregates.
  • Assist in placement, displacement, and moving of traffic control devices, including traffic control patterns on construction sites.
  • Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean work environment.
  • Collaborate with team members to complete projects on time and within quality standards.
  • Use PPE while on jobsite (hard hat, safety glasses, ear protection, high visibility vest, steel toe boots, pants, and gloves).
  • Maintain awareness of safety issues and report any concerns to supervisors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including assisting other divisions of the company when necessary.
  • Take initiative, anticipate needs, and demonstrate willingness to learn and understand your role on the team.

Requirements

  • Experience in asphalt paving and/or road construction preferred.
  • Pass pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and criminal background check.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to maintain a Medical Examiner’s Certificate for DOT vehicles.
  • Ability to work overtime when required.
  • Strictly adhere to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas.
  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to customers, co-workers, supervisors, and the general public.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
  • Follow directions of manager regarding daily tasks and expectations for each project or job site.
  • Capability to work in all weather conditions.
  • Report to work at the designated start time.
  • Great attention to detail and stress tolerance.

Work Environment

This position requires working outdoors in various climate conditions, ranging from very cold with rain to very hot and humid. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high, with occasional exposure to machine noise.
