Asphalt Laborer

Position Overview

Idaho Materials & Construction, a CRH Company, champions the safety, empowerment, and development of its employees. This position involves assisting in the placement, spreading, and leveling of asphalt materials, supporting paving operations, and performing various tasks around heavy equipment.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

• Assist in the placement, spreading, and leveling of asphalt materials.
• Support paving operations, including shoveling, raking, and smoothing asphalt.
• Work around heavy equipment such as pavers, rollers, and trucks.
• Follow grade and prep instructions to ensure proper thickness and finish.
• Clean tools, equipment, and work areas before, during, and after projects.
• Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on tools and equipment.
• Direct traffic and maintain safe work zones as needed.
• Follow all safety protocols, including OSHA and company safety policies.
• Work cooperatively with crew members and supervisors to meet production goals.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Previous construction or asphalt/paving experience preferred but not required.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Ability to perform physically demanding labor, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
• Reliable attendance and strong work ethic.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Basic understanding of asphalt paving processes (preferred).
• Ability to work safely around heavy equipment.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
• Attention to detail and safety awareness.

Physical Requirements

• Frequent sitting, climbing, using hands to signal and handle equipment.
• Occasional standing, walking, crawling, kneeling, bending, and reaching with hands and arms above their shoulders.
• Periodic lifting and/or moving up to 50-75 lbs.
• Close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
• Exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, and extreme cold and/or heat.
• Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
