About the Role
The After School Program Aide provides after-school care, including supervision of students and assistance with planning and conducting student activities.
Responsibilities
- Supports instruction and supervision for assigned students.
- Assists in screening and selecting materials and equipment for program use.
- Assists in maintaining assigned records.
- Attends After School Program staff meetings.
- Models appropriate behavior and monitors for student safety by recognizing potentially dangerous situations.
- Maintains a pleasant and professional attitude with staff, students, and parents.
- Employs a variety of behavior management techniques.
- Respects the cultures and values of families in the program.
- Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Knows American Sign Language (ASL).
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn behavior support strategies with visual aids.
Skills
- Ability to perform multiple tasks and upgrade skills as needed.
- Proficiency in operating standard office equipment and software applications.
- Experience preparing and maintaining accurate records.
- Adherence to safety practices and procedures.
- Ability to promote activities and events.
- Basic math skills and ability to read manuals, write documents, and present information.
- Understanding of complex, multi-step written and oral instructions.
- Knowledge of grammar and punctuation, child development stages, learning styles, and age-appropriate activities.
- Familiarity with school safety and security practices.
- Ability to schedule activities, collate data, and use job-related equipment.
- Flexibility to work with diverse individuals and data using varied processes.
- Problem-solving skills to identify issues and create action plans.
- Ability to communicate with diverse groups, maintain confidentiality, set priorities, and work as part of a team.
- Ability to handle constant interruptions.
Physical Requirements
- Some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling.
- Some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling.
- Significant fine finger dexterity.
- Job requires 20% sitting, 40% walking, and 40% standing.
Continuing Education/Training
- Maintains all licenses and certifications.
Clearances
- Criminal Justice Fingerprint Background Clearance.
