Position Overview

Ash Haul Operators are responsible for the safe and efficient hauling, loading, transporting, and dumping of ash and related materials. This position supports overall plant efficiency by ensuring that ash is managed in compliance with environmental, safety, and operational standards. The role requires strong attention to safety, equipment operation skills, and the ability to work in varying outdoor conditions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate haul trucks, loaders, and other heavy equipment used for ash transport and material handling safely and efficiently
  • Perform daily pre-shift inspections and routine maintenance checks on equipment
  • Safely load, haul, and dump ash to designated disposal or storage locations following established procedures
  • Keep time and material records
  • Follow verbal and written instruction
  • Report equipment malfunctions, maintenance needs, or safety issues immediately
  • Maintain clean work areas, safe traffic patterns, and proper load handling
  • Maneuver and back equipment
  • Communicate effectively on the radio system
  • Maintain safe slopes on excavations and proper barricading
  • Perform minor servicing and maintenance or refer major problems to the supervisor
  • Assist in labor and physical tasks as needed

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • One to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in aggregates, cement, power plant, or industrial hauling environments preferred but not required
  • MSHA or OSHA training certification preferred

Licenses and Certifications

  • Valid state commercial driver's license (CDL) Class A preferred
  • Valid driver's license required

Work Requirements

  • One to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Incident free driving record preferred
  • May be subject to drug, alcohol, and physical abilities testing

Knowledge and Skills

  • Ability to communicate using two-way radio
  • Basic math
  • Basic computer skills preferred
  • Ability to work well with others in a group or one on one setting

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently required to sit, climb, and use hands to signal and handle equipment
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms above shoulders
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs
  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception

Work Environment

  • Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions; and extreme cold and/or heat
  • Noise level is usually moderate
