ASDOH - Instructor Dental Hygiene
About the role
Promote a culture of professionalism, respect, collegiality, diversity, and humanistic education while advancing the mission and goals of ASDOH and A.T. Still University through excellence in patient care, teaching, scholarship, and service. Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administration to support clinical operations, quality assurance, patient safety, and infection control. Provide direct supervision and instruction to predoctoral dental students within ASDOH clinics while facilitating student learning, professional development, and achievement of clinical competency through classroom, laboratory, preclinical, and clinical instruction. Collaborate with Clinic Directors, faculty, and staff to support comprehensive patient-centered care, including periodontal maintenance and preventive care programs.
Responsibilities
- Promote evidence-based practice, professionalism, ethical decision-making, and effective patient communication while providing direct patient care alongside the instruction of predoctoral students.
- Collaborate with Clinic Directors and faculty to support comprehensive treatment planning, continuity of care, and periodontal maintenance programs.
- Provide direct supervision, instruction, and mentorship to predoctoral dental students in clinical, preclinical, laboratory, and classroom settings, facilitating competency development in preventive dentistry, periodontal therapy, radiology, infection control, and patient-centered care.
- Evaluate student performance and provide timely feedback, assessment, and mentorship to support ongoing skill development and clinical competency.
- Provide coverage and aid in the Radiology department acquiring images and teaching practices to students.
- Participate in school, university, and professional committees, governance and accreditation activities, and community outreach initiatives while maintaining professional development and engaging in scholarly activities consistent with faculty rank, expertise, and workload.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Dental Hygiene.
- Valid Arizona dental hygiene and local anesthesia license.
- 3-6 years of experience required.
- Academic experience in clinical education preferred.
- 5+ years' experience in provision of dental hygiene patient care preferred.
Knowledge
- Non-surgical periodontal instruments, instrumentation, and technique.
- Periodontal anatomy and physiology.
- Parameters for periodontal surgical referral.
Skills
- Highly skilled in dental hygiene and patient care.
- Team-oriented with strong mentoring skills and personable demeanor.
Abilities
- Able to evaluate and grade non-surgical periodontal procedures using current American Academy of Periodontology guidelines.
- Determine proper non-surgical techniques and evaluate completion of non-surgical periodontal procedures.
- Provide direct patient care when indicated to ensure patient treatment is completed if a student cannot complete the non-surgical periodontal procedure in a timely manner.
