About the Role

Assists with the maintenance and cleaning of a variety of indirect and direct fire weapon systems – including but not limited to 60mm, 81mm and 120mm mortars; 105mm, 155mm and 8-inch howitzers; and 105mm and 120mm cannons. Uses mechanical and manual cleaning devices. Assists with the transportation of weapons and weapon components to and from inspection and maintenance areas. Assists with performing preventive maintenance checks and services (PMCS) on the Weapons Operations Division’s fleet of non-tactical vehicles, such as golf carts, farm tractors, forklifts and tube trailers, using appropriate checklists, and reports equipment anomalies to senior support personnel. Performs other duties as required to complete the assigned mission. This position is covered under the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and clean indirect and direct fire weapon systems (60mm, 81mm, 120mm mortars; 105mm, 155mm, 8-inch howitzers; 105mm, 120mm cannons).
• Use mechanical and manual cleaning devices.
• Transport weapons and weapon components to and from inspection and maintenance areas.
• Perform preventive maintenance checks and services (PMCS) on non-tactical vehicles (golf carts, farm tractors, forklifts, tube trailers).
• Report equipment anomalies to senior support personnel.
• Perform other duties as required to complete the assigned mission.

Requirements

• Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a current AA&E certification.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain licenses/certifications to operate Weapons Operations Division equipment (forklifts, farm tractors, track vehicles, etc.).
• Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and physical, and periodic retests.
• Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for assigned tasks.
• Must have dependable transportation and a dependable means of communication.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license without special restrictions.
• Must be able to work all shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed, sometimes on short notice, to support test missions.
• Must be able to speak, write, read, and understand English.
• Must have a well-mannered customer service attitude.
• Must be willing to cross-train in other areas.
• Must use “down-time” effectively to benefit test, self, and company.
• Must be punctual, responsible, and dependable.
• Must demonstrate motivation, initiative, and reliability.

• Must possess or be able to obtain a security clearance prior to employment and maintain it for the duration of employment.
• Must be a current TRAX employee or affiliate subcontractor for internal postings.

Physical Requirements

• Must be capable of working in extreme weather conditions, including summer temperatures peaking around 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
• Must be capable of lifting 100 lbs unassisted.
• Must be capable of frequent squatting, crouching, and stooping.
• Must be capable of entering and exiting self-propelled howitzers safely and comfortably.
• Must be able to withstand wet or damp conditions for long periods.
• Must meet the physical requirements necessary to perform operations outlined in the SOPs for Artillery Test Section.

Qualifications

Relevance of experience to be determined by hiring manager.

Desirable Qualifications

• Experience on towed or self-propelled howitzers or a mortar system.

Pay

$22.54 per hour
