About the Opportunity

The Artificial Intelligence (AI) Engineer role involves translating operational workflows, domain knowledge, and business problems into practical AI prototypes and minimum viable products (MVPs). This position supports the exploration and validation of AI use cases that demonstrate business value quickly, working closely with experts and stakeholders to create impactful AI solutions for internal teams and client-facing applications.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with business experts and stakeholders to understand workflows, expert reasoning, and challenges.
  • Identify opportunities for AI to augment judgment, automate tasks, and enhance analytical processes.
  • Design and build AI prototypes, proof-of-concepts, and MVPs demonstrating practical value.
  • Develop prototype codebases, APIs, prompts, and evaluation scripts for AI use cases.
  • Prepare data, documents, and evaluation resources to validate prototypes.
  • Validate prototypes with stakeholders and iterate based on feedback and testing.
  • Document assumptions, design choices, evaluation results, limitations, and next steps.
  • Support handoff of prototypes to technology teams by preparing architecture and deployment documentation.
  • Apply AI development best practices including privacy, security, transparency, and quality evaluation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, AI, or related field.
  • 1–3 years of relevant experience including internships, projects, or early professional roles in AI, machine learning, software, or data engineering.
  • Ability to translate business workflows into AI solutions.
  • Strong communication skills for engaging non-technical stakeholders.
  • Curiosity, problem-solving ability, and a collaborative mindset.
  • Familiarity with Python programming and basic software engineering.
  • Exposure to AI/ML frameworks, generative AI concepts, application development, and cloud platforms, preferably Microsoft Azure.
  • Experience with insurance or financial services is a plus but not required.

Pay

  • The overall pay range for this role is $78,800 to $145,130.
  • For candidates residing in Alaska, California, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York City, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington, or the District of Columbia the range is $90,620 to $145,130.
  • For all other locations the range is $78,800 to $126,200.
  • Compensation depends on factors including education, experience, qualifications, skills, and certifications.
