Artificial Insemination Crew (Catcher)

About the role

This position is responsible for catching and herding turkeys for insemination while maintaining the wellbeing of the turkeys and the cleanliness of the barn. Select Genetics is the leading supplier of poults to growers and companies across the world, providing quality poults, service, and innovation on a national and international scale.

Responsibilities

• Efficiently catch 1,000–1,500 turkeys per shift (500–550 turkeys per hour).
• Herd turkeys safely and effectively.
• Wash and disinfect turkey production facilities in a safe and organized manner.
• Follow all company rules and regulations for bio security, animal welfare, and safety.
• Work productively in a team environment and assist in any area to complete tasks.
• Use a variety of tools and equipment while performing duties.
• Push, bend, stoop, squat, pull, and lift 50 lbs or more.
• Work with live animals in conditions that may include dust, cold, humidity, heat, chemicals, and fumes.
• Organize and prioritize responsibilities to ensure efficient operations.
• Sanitize and disinfect turkey production facilities and equipment.
• Use effective time management and follow protocols for disinfecting equipment and facilities.
• Repair equipment or direct repairs as needed.
• Maintain a safe and clean working environment.
• Work an extended workday if needed, including some weekends.
• Occasionally work on various farms as required.
• Demonstrate excellent hand-eye coordination.
• Perform other duties as assigned by a direct supervisor.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Prior experience in artificial insemination or the poultry industry preferred.
• Valid Driver’s License and acceptable motor vehicle driving record preferred.
• Bilingual (Spanish) skills a plus.
• Ability to work in a physically demanding environment with constant movement and exposure to varying conditions.

Schedule

Schedule varies depending on the farm. Some weekend work is required.
