About the Role

The Technician provides electrical and electronic technical services for process and control equipment for all operating departments in the facility, including building, grounds, and utilities. This role secures equipment and oversees the installation of new and improved equipment and systems to enhance profitability.

Responsibilities

  • 40% Maintains hardware and software for electrical and electronic control systems to optimize production equipment uptime and provides troubleshooting services.
  • 25% Assists Maintenance electricians in learning new equipment and operations, as well as establishing spare parts and materials.
  • 15% Participates in an on-call rotation for weekends (shared among all available technical personnel).
  • 10% Identifies new electronic systems in the marketplace, recommends purchases, and oversees installation and startup of new systems.
  • 10% Provides support to the engineering department to ensure proper exchange of data and information for successful operating systems.

Secondary responsibilities include promoting and demonstrating activities such as meeting NFP 70 safety standards, developing employee safety programs, and supporting lean and quality team concepts.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in electronics technology.
  • Technical strengths in PLCs, AC/DC drive systems, and process control instrumentation.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience with PLCs, AC/DC drive systems, and process control instrumentation, preferably in a heavy manufacturing environment.

Skills

  • Team Building: Ability to work collaboratively to build high morale and group commitment to goals and objectives. Demonstrates judgment and a realistic understanding of issues, even in emotionally charged situations.
  • Problem Solving: Ability to solve practical problems and handle a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization. Interprets instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Working Conditions

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:

  • Use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Stand and walk frequently.
  • Occasionally sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crawl, and talk or hear.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds unassisted.

Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Potential working conditions include wet or humid environments, near moving mechanical parts, above floor level, outside weather conditions, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, electrical shock risks, and high noise levels. Guidance for these conditions is provided in work instructions, Personal Protective Equipment Hazard Assessments, and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs).
