Art Teacher - Horizon Middle School (2026-27 School Year)

Position begins August 14, 2026 for the 2026-2027 school year. New Teacher Orientation will be held August 11th, 12th, and 13th. The teaching contract is 187 days. External candidates may transfer up to 17 years of contracted K–12 teaching experience.

Qualifications

• Valid North Dakota teaching certificate
• Bachelor’s degree

Open to internal and external applicants, including current BPS support staff, temporary, or substitute employees. Part-time contracted BPS teachers seeking full-time positions must also complete the external application. Applicants will be required to complete the EPI Candidate Assessment (timed, 45–60 minutes; one-time completion).

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

• Communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff, and community.
• Creates an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of children.
• Develops, selects, and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students.
• Plans and provides appropriate learning experiences for students.
• Monitors and evaluates student outcomes.
• Supervises students in various school-related settings.
• Maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices.
• Assesses student accomplishments regularly and provides progress reports as required.
• Prepares daily lesson plans in sufficient detail to allow a substitute teacher to effectively manage the class.

Non-Essential Functions

• Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
• Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Meets and instructs assigned classes at designated times and locations.
• Prepares for classes and provides written evidence of preparation upon request.
• Assists administration in implementing student life and conduct policies; develops and enforces fair classroom behavior rules.
• Takes necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Attends and participates in faculty meetings.
• Assists in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
• Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with staff members.
• Pursues professional growth through reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, or advanced coursework in compliance with Bismarck Public Schools’ professional growth program.
