About the role

Responsibilities
- Plans, directs, and supervises all activities related to the job under the guidance of the Senior Manager of Youth Development.
- Provides a quality experience to children and parents focusing on YMCA core values: Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, Caring, Courage, and Inclusion.
- Maintains a supportive, positive environment welcoming and respecting all individuals.
- Trains and supervises staff in their responsibilities, including coaching and evaluating performance.
- Executes the camp schedule daily and coordinates age-appropriate activities corresponding with weekly themes.
- Identifies and meets each camper’s needs, including learning likes/dislikes, recognizing and responding to problem-solving opportunities, and creating great camp experiences.
- Carries out camp program objectives, establishing roles for camper health, enforcing safety regulations, supervising the camper’s day, and instructing campers during emergency procedures.
- Plans and implements culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate, and value-consistent program activities.
- Works directly with the Camp Director, Assistant Director, and Camp Counselors.
- Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness.
- Attends staff meetings and trainings.
- Fulfills YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies.
- Maintains positive relations with peers and supervisors.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.
- At least 18 years of age.
- Previous experience working with children, preferably in a day camp setting.
- Desire and ability to work with children.
- Knowledge and skills in specified area, documented.
- Ability to relate to peers, accept supervision and guidance.
- CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training during Pre-Season Camp Trainings.
- Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
- Good character, integrity, adaptability, enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and self-control.
- A positive, "can do" attitude demonstrating willingness to assist and anticipate needs.
