Responsibilities

  • Translate card concepts, narrative intent, gameplay needs, and Disney Lorcana visual standards into clear, inspiring art direction for commissioned illustrations, ensuring artwork supports both card-level execution and broader set-level visual goals across the trading card game experience.
  • Review and refine art descriptions and creative briefs, ensuring they are focused, production-ready, easy for artists to act on, and aligned with narrative needs, gameplay objectives, and visual storytelling standards.
  • Commission and guide a high volume of illustration work from brief through final delivery, providing timely, constructive feedback that keeps artwork accurate, aligned with narrative needs, on brand, and on schedule.
  • Collaborate remotely with Set Leads, Narrative, Production, Brand, Art Coordination, and external artists to align creative goals with production realities, balancing artistic vision, production requirements, and the overall player experience.
  • Use overlays, references, and visual notes to clarify direction, solve production challenges, and support artist success; maintain brand consistency, IP standards, and visual storytelling quality across commissioned artwork; and support the discovery, review, and thoughtful onboarding of freelance illustration talent with an eye toward building a broad and globally relevant artist pool.

Requirements

  • Relevant experience in production art direction, illustration commissioning, art buying, tabletop or collectible trading card game development, publishing, animation, games, entertainment licensing, or other visual storytelling fields.
  • Demonstrated experience commissioning and directing illustration work, with the ability to provide thoughtful visual feedback and support high-quality creative execution from concept through final delivery.
  • Strong understanding of visual storytelling and creative collaboration, with experience partnering across creative, production, and cross-functional teams to achieve project goals.
  • For Junior-level candidates: early professional experience and strong potential in illustration commissioning, art direction, visual evaluation, and delivering clear, actionable feedback to artists and creative partners.
  • For Senior and Lead-level candidates: demonstrated ownership of complex commissions, set-level creative direction, and/or production workflows, with the ability to guide projects, drive alignment, and contribute to the successful execution of larger creative initiatives.
