About the Role
Armed Security Officers are responsible for protecting the site’s building, grounds, assets, employees, and visitors against criminal activity. Officers at this location will work on a team to control access at entry/exit points of a local headquarters and serve as a point of contact for all visitors and patrons.
Responsibilities
- Provide exceptional customer service.
- Guard posts at entry/exit points of the local base.
- Conduct foot and vehicle patrols of interior and exterior grounds to ensure a safe and secure environment.
- Ensure unauthorized persons do not enter restricted areas.
- Check employee, vendor, and visitor identifications.
- Monitor for suspicious persons, packages, and activities.
- Follow site-specific post guidelines.
- Document daily activities and report all incidents.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent (GED). For armed security work, must be at least 21 years old with a Michigan Concealed Pistol License (CPL) or LEOSA card.
- No felony convictions (per MCL 338.106010(1)(c)).
- No misdemeanor convictions related to dishonesty, fraud, impersonation of law enforcement, assault, weapons, unauthorized sale of information/evidence, controlled substances (including marijuana), or two or more alcohol-related offenses (per MCL 338.106010(1)(c)).
- Must pass a drug screening at hire and randomly thereafter (including for marijuana).
- Must adhere to the company’s Uniform and Appearance policy, presenting a professional image.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including de-escalation abilities. Must fluently read, write, speak, and understand English.
- If driving company/client vehicles or using a personal vehicle for work, must have a valid Michigan driver’s license with a clean record (fewer than 3 moving violations, fewer than 2 at-fault accidents, and no major violations in the last 3 years).
- Willingness to become CPR/First Aid/AED certified and capable of administering emergency care.
- Must pass a Physical Agility Test (PAT) within 90 days of hire and annually thereafter (includes sprinting, sit-ups, push-ups, and a timed 1.5-mile run).
- Physically and mentally sound, able to remain alert during shifts (armed officers must complete a psychological evaluation).
- Able to sit, stand, and walk for 8–12-hour shifts, including navigating stairs.
- Able to work indoors/outdoors in all seasons.
- Able to use hands/fingers to manipulate keys, tools, and equipment.
- Able to hear conversations (in person or via 2-way radio) in noisy environments.
- Able to lift up to 70 lbs.
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
