Armed Security Officer - Security - PT - Evening
About the role
This position will assist in the education and enforcement of regulations, policies, and laws that contribute to the safety and security of patients, visitors, and employees of the Medical Center.
Responsibilities
- Enforces regulations, policies, and laws that contribute to the safety and security of patients, visitors, and employees of the medical center.
- Performs routine security patrols in the Emergency Department lobby and the outside entrance to the Emergency Department, to prevent thefts, destruction of property, disorderly conduct, and other adverse incidents on SVH property.
- Performs security related functions, including but not limited to report writing, CCTV monitoring, and patient assists.
- Responds to escalating and combative patient and visitor situations as necessary in the front lobby of the Emergency Department.
- Attends workshops, classes, and seminars to maintain their proficiency and assure a safe environment for patients, visitors, and employees.
- Complies with all policies, standards, mandatory training and requirements of Stormont Vail Health.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Graduated from a law enforcement academy.
- 2 years Law enforcement experience with current agency if presently employed as an officer or retired status with a Law Enforcement Agency with firearms permit from a sponsored Law Enforcement Agency.
- Mets the LEOSA Standard of 10 or more years of experience with one or more of the following criteria:
- Is or was authorized by law to engage in or supervise the prevention, detection, investigation, or prosecution of, or the incarceration of any person for, any violation of law, and has statutory powers of arrest
- Is or was authorized by their employing federal, state, or local agency to carry a firearm
- Is in good standing with the applicable federal or state law enforcement regulatory agency
- Mets standards, if any, established by the agency which require the employee to regularly qualify in the use of a firearm
- Included is a military police officer who is similarly trained and possessed apprehension authority under the Uniform Code of Military Justice
- Included is a Correctional Officer who served in an armed position, such as Correctional Emergency Response Team or Court Transport and successfully completed mandatory training for that position within their agency
- Is not under the influence of alcohol or another intoxicating or hallucinatory drug or substance
- Is not prohibited by Federal law from receiving or purchasing a firearm.

- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, policies, and guidelines.
- Ability to write routine reports.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Benefits
On a contingent basis officers may work pending the outcome of their assessment but are not allowed to carry firearms.
Requires a Drivers License - DMV Current Valid Driver’s License and Clean MVR with 3-year baseline and annual MVR review.
Requires a Firearms Permit - TPD Must be qualified with firearm in accordance with the KS C-Post weapons qualifications course.
Requires maintaining firearm certification through their Law Enforcement Agency.
Requires providing own semi-automatic firearm that is acceptable by the Stormont-Vail Healthcare Security Policy.
Requires successfully completing and passing a psychological assessment sponsored by Stormont Vail Health prior to employment.
Requires adherence to Stormont Vail’s Remote Worker Policy and reviewing and acknowledging the Remote Work Agreement annually.
Requires compliance with all policies, standards, mandatory training and requirements of Stormont Vail Health.
Requires performing other duties as assigned.
Requires remote work capability on-site; no remote.
Requires scope no supervisory responsibility; no budget responsibility.
Requires physical demands including frequent walking, occasional running, and the ability to assist in restraining and lifting patients in excess of 100-800 pounds.
Requires good hand dexterity.
Requires working conditions including burn, chemical, combative patients, dusts, electrical, explosive, extreme temperatures, infectious diseases, mechanical, needle stick, noise/sounds, other atmospheric conditions, poor ventilation, fumes and/or gases, radiant energy, risk of exposure to blood and body fluids, risk of exposure to hazardous drugs, hazards (other), vibration, wet and/or humid, and working with patients and or visitors who are agitated, disoriented, physically or verbally aggressive and or otherwise emotionally impaired.
