Armed Security Officer

About the role

Armed Security Officers are responsible for protecting the site’s building, grounds, assets, employees, and visitors against criminal activity. Officers at this location will work on a team to control access at entry/exit points of a local headquarters and serve as a point of contact for all visitors and patrons.

Responsibilities

• Provide exceptional customer service.
• Guard posts at entry/exit points of the local base.
• Conduct foot and vehicle patrols of the interior and exterior of the grounds to ensure a safe and secure environment.
• Ensure unauthorized persons do not enter restricted areas.
• Check employee, vendor, and visitor identifications.
• Monitor for suspicious persons, packages, and activities.
• Follow site-specific post guidelines.
• Document daily activities and report all incidents.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent (GED), per MCL 338.106717. (Must be at least 21 years old and hold a Michigan CPL or LEOSA card for armed security work.)
• Must not have been convicted of any felonies, per MCL 338.106010(1)(c).
• Must not have been convicted of misdemeanors related to dishonesty, fraud, impersonation of law enforcement, assault, weapons, unauthorized sale of information or evidence, controlled substances (including marijuana), or two or more alcohol-related offenses, per MCL 338.106010(1)(c).
• Must pass a drug screening at hire and randomly thereafter (including for marijuana).
• Must adhere to the company’s Uniform and Appearance policy and present a professional image.
• Must possess excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to de-escalate situations non-confrontationally. Must be fluent in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
• If driving company/client vehicles or using a personal vehicle for work, must have a valid Michigan driver’s license with a clean record (fewer than 3 moving violations, fewer than 2 at-fault accidents, and no major violations in the last 3 years).
• Must be willing to become CPR/First Aid/AED certified and capable of administering care in emergencies.
• Must pass a Physical Agility Test (PAT) within 90 days of hire and annually thereafter. The PAT includes timed sprints, sit-ups, push-ups, and a 1.5-mile run.
• Must be physically and mentally sound, able to remain alert during shifts (8–12 hours), and complete a psychological evaluation upon hire (for armed officers).
• Must be able to sit, stand, walk long distances (including stairs), and work indoors/outdoors in all seasons.
• Must be able to use hands/fingers to manipulate keys, tools, and equipment.
• Must be able to hear conversations (in person or via 2-way radio) in noisy environments.
• Must be able to lift up to 70 lbs.
• Must be able to work independently with little supervision.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Michigan Concealed Pistol License (CPL).
• Michigan Driver License.

Schedule

Monday – Friday, 07:30 AM – 3:30 PM.
