Armed Security Officer

About the role

This position is located in Battle Creek, MI. Armed Security Officers are responsible for protecting the site’s building, grounds, assets, employees, and visitors against criminal activity. Officers at this location will work on a team to control access at the entry/exit points of a local headquarters and serve as a point of contact for all visitors and patrons.

Responsibilities

• Provide exceptional customer service.
• Guard posts at the entry/exit points of the local base.
• Conduct foot and vehicle patrols of the interior and exterior of the grounds to ensure a safe and secure environment.
• Ensure unauthorized persons do not enter restricted areas.
• Check for employee, vendor, and visitor identifications.
• Look for suspicious persons, packages, and activities.
• Follow site-specific post guidelines.
• Document daily activities and report all incidents.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old and have at least a high school diploma or equivalent (e.g., GED).
• Must be at least 21 years old and hold a valid Michigan Concealed Pistol License (CPL) or LEOSA card for armed security work.
• Must not have been convicted of any felonies or disqualifying misdemeanors (e.g., dishonesty, fraud, impersonation of law enforcement, assault, weapons offenses, unauthorized sale of information or evidence, controlled substances, or two or more alcohol-related offenses).
• Must pass a drug screening at hire and randomly thereafter (including for marijuana).
• Must adhere to the company’s Uniform and Appearance policy and present a professional image.
• Must possess excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to de-escalate situations non-confrontationally. Fluency in English (reading, writing, speaking) is required.
• If driving company/client vehicles or using a personal vehicle for work, must have a valid Michigan driver’s license with a clean record (fewer than 3 moving violations, fewer than 2 at-fault accidents, and no major violations in the last 3 years).
• Must be willing to become CPR/First Aid/AED certified and capable of administering care in emergencies.
• Must pass a Physical Agility Test (PAT) within 90 days of hire and annually thereafter (includes sprinting, sit-ups, push-ups, and a timed 1.5-mile run).
• Must be physically and mentally sound, able to remain alert during shifts, and complete a psychological evaluation upon hire (for armed officers).
• Must be able to sit, stand, and walk long distances (including stairs) for 8–12-hour shifts.
• Must be able to work indoors/outdoors in all seasons.
• Must be able to use hands/fingers to manipulate keys, tools, and equipment.
• Must be able to hear conversations (in person or via 2-way radio) in noisy environments.
• Must be able to lift up to 70 lbs.
• Must be able to work independently with little supervision.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Michigan Concealed Pistol License (CPL).
• Michigan Driver’s License.

Pay

$19.89/hour for current openings at Fort Custer Training Center.

Schedule

3rd Shift (0000–0800), 4+ days per week.
