About the Role

The Armed Security Officer plays a critical role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for patients, staff, visitors, and guests. This position is responsible for responding promptly and effectively to emergency situations, including active threats and alarm activations, while enforcing institutional policies such as the weapons-free campus. Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma/GED
  • Licensure/Certification:
    • Driver's License (DL)
    • Florida Class "D" Security Officer License (must obtain within 90 days of hire)
    • Florida Class "G" Firearm License (must obtain within 90 days of hire)
    • Must obtain Florida license within six (6) months of hire
  • Required Training (must be obtained within twelve (12) months of hire):
    • CPR certification (tracked by the business)
    • Self-defense certification (tracked by the business)
    • Axon/Taser® certification (tracked by the business)

Required Skills

  • Strong observational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to respond to emergencies in a calm and effective manner
  • Ability to display proficiency with security equipment including firearm, taser and handcuffs
  • Ability to use security technology systems including cameras, weapon detection, alarms, and access control
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of healthcare security procedures and patient privacy regulations (HIPAA)
  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal laws governing security officers and the use of force including firearms
  • Must be able to meet physical requirements associated with required training for certifications and fitness assessment as required by the employer
  • Must be able to pass a psychological screening as required by employer
  • Must be able to pass an armed security officer assessment panel as required by employer
  • Must be able to pass firearms qualification course as required by employer

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice or related field
  • Licensure/Certification: Stop the Bleed Certification, IAHSS Basic Certification
