Armed Federal Protective Security Officers (FPS) - South Florida
Job Summary
Protect public figures, coordinate crime prevention activities, and guard government property. Monitor federal building access control, employee and visitor identification checks, and security, equipment monitoring, and roving patrols of the interior and exterior of federal property. Provide detailed reports on daily activities and/or incidents that may have occurred. Use provided communication devices, such as two-way radios, clearly and concisely. Provide emergency response and evaluation procedures. Perform CPR or first aid when needed. Ensure credentials are maintained per contract requirements. Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor and/or Project Manager.
Minimum Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must be a United States citizen or a Lawful Permanent Resident who is currently a member of, or possesses a verifiable honorable discharge from, any component of the United States Armed Forces (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard).
- Must have been issued a Social Security Card by the Social Security Administration, which bears the individual name and social security number.
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience security (armed) experience or one (1) year of law enforcement experience in a full-duty status with a full-service police department in a municipality, state, or federal law enforcement department within the US.
- A minimum of two (2) years as a member of any US Armed Forces with an honorable discharge.
- Knowledgeable and able to effectively use magnetometer and X-ray machines.
- Must fluently speak, read, comprehend English, and be able to compose written reports in English.
- Must be able to qualify with a semi-automatic.
- Strong relevant knowledge of the security industry.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Must have a customer service-driven mindset.
- Able to communicate effectively and present information to all levels of internal and external customers.
Physical Demands
- Frequent and prolonged walking, standing, sitting, and stooping up to 12 hours per day, indoors or outdoors, during daytime or nighttime.
- Outdoor posts may require an individual to withstand extreme heat, humidity, cold, and/or severe weather (e.g., snow, sleet, rain, hail, wind).
- Frequent contact with the public, law enforcement, and dispatch center, requiring an ability to speak clearly and distinctly and remain calm in stressful situations.
- Ability to remain on post for up to four (4) consecutive hours without sitting, eating, or receiving a break.
- Ability to remain alert for up to 12 hours, with the ability to mentally and physically react quickly to various unexpected and dangerous situations.
- Ability to use post-security equipment (handheld and walk-thru metal detectors, X-ray machine, CCTV).
- Ability to read Post Orders, and assignments, Be-on-the Lookout (BOLO), write reports, and respond to both routine and emergency dispatches/orders.
- Ability to subdue violent or potentially violent or disturbed individuals or intervene in a crisis.
- Occasional running, sprinting, lifting heavy weights, moving heavy objects, climbing stairs.
Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates with the following qualifications:
- Relevant education and training in security or law enforcement.
- Experience working in a federal building or similar secure environment.
- Previous experience with security systems and equipment.
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to handle stress and maintain composure in high-pressure situations.
