Location & Commitments

Full Time, Part Time, Temporary, or Supplemental roles based at our Greenville location. Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Early and late hours required. Overtime may be needed to ensure patient care, task completion, and timely call returns. Weekend work is rare but occasionally necessary.

Reports to Clinical Supervisor, Operations or Clinical Manager, or Director of Operations. No supervisory responsibilities.

• Full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual dexterity, and eye-hand coordination
• Standing and walking for extended periods
• Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 100 pounds
• Normal visual acuity and hearing
• Exposure to bodily fluids

Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment.

About The Role

The Certified Medical Assistant works interdependently with other medical professionals to provide quality health care to a high volume of patients. They provide direct patient care and treatment in the office as directed by a Physician, Advanced Practice Provider, Registered Nurse, or Supervising Manager.

Responsibilities

• Assist providers during office visits and in-office procedures
• Prepare exam rooms for clinical procedures
• Measure and record vital signs (orthostatic blood pressure, temperature, pulse, body weight, height) and complete health history questions
• Record medications, allergies, pertinent lab work, pharmacy, and Primary Care Provider (PCP) in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
• Perform EKGs
• Provide patient education
• Administer injections and manage immunizations
• Assist with prior authorizations and population health initiatives, including care gap closure
• Prepare and administer medications under physician direction
• Follow standing orders (e.g., UA, Flu, Strep tests)
• Administer oral medications under direct physician supervision
• Order, stock, and maintain exam rooms and clinic areas
• Notify patients of lab results
• Answer phone calls and refill medications at the direction of the physician
• Coordinate patient care by making referrals to other departments and clinics
• Disinfect exam rooms between patients
• Perform delegated procedures common to the specialty area safely and effectively according to Policy and Procedures

Advanced Responsibilities

• Act as provider assistant for multiple providers interchangeably
• Serve as station floater, including communicating panic lab values, assisting with same-day requests, and managing desktop tasks for all station providers and staff
• Precept new hires and attest to competencies of department staff
• Start, maintain, and disconnect IVs
• Serve as backup station supervisor

Other Duties

• Maintain patient confidentiality
• Keep management informed of high-risk situations
• Demonstrate proper cleaning and use of equipment
• Practice infection control following OSHA guidelines and office policy
• Maintain Medical Assistant certification (or obtain within 90 days of employment)
• Maintain CPR certification
• Attend fire safety classes, clinical meetings, compliance training, and other continuing education as offered
• Adhere to department and office policies

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited associate degree Medical Assistant program
• Current certification through AAMA, NHA, RMA, or similar organization (or obtain within 90 days of employment)
• Prior healthcare experience required
• Experience with electronic medical records (EMR/HER) software
• Professional demeanor and respect for patient and family privacy
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to communicate and interact professionally with others
• Active listening skills
• Ability to observe, draft accurate narrative accounts, and document events clearly in grammatically correct English
• Strong spelling, proofreading, and editing skills
