Arizona Lawyer Apprentice Program (ALAP) Prosecutor I
About the role
The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office (MCAO) is now accepting applications from law school graduates interested in participating in the Arizona Lawyer Apprentice Program (ALAP). To be eligible, applicants must meet all conditions outlined in the Arizona Supreme Court’s Administrative Order no. 2024-148, including a score on the Uniform Bar Exam between 260 and 269. To practice law under the ALAP, the individual must work in an approved position, such as working for a public law practice, which includes the MCAO. The position involves working as a lawyer apprentice in a full-time Prosecutor I position for a 24-month supervisory period. At the end of the period, employment continues if the apprentice successfully achieves regular membership in the State Bar of Arizona.
Responsibilities
- Discuss and present analyses of legal issues
- Conduct trials, present oral arguments, and cover court
- Interview witnesses regarding facts in the prosecution of cases
- Research and analyze legal issues using both computerized legal research and hard copy tools
- Compose memoranda and pleadings regarding legal issues of concern
- Maintain professional relationships with victims, witnesses, law enforcement agencies, and members of the community
- Negotiate the just resolution of assigned cases and comply with victims' rights
Requirements
- Graduated from an ABA-accredited law school
- ALAP applicant, having submitted an application and seeking qualified employment
- Cleared through the MCAO’s attorney background process, including a drug screen

Pay
$82,250 - $108,750 annually. Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
Schedule
Full-time position for a 24-month supervisory period.
