About the role
The Area Supervisor plays a crucial role within Ross, a leading off-price retail chain with over 2,200 stores. Reporting to the Store Manager, this position oversees a specific area of the store and manages the general operations and supervision of the store.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a safe and secure environment by understanding and practicing safe behaviors, immediately correcting or reporting any unsafe conditions or practices to Store Leadership.
- Ensure customer safety by preventing accidents, reporting incidents, and following emergency procedures. Test fire alarm systems and respond to after-hours alarms.
- Treat all customers, associates, and leaders with respect, demonstrating courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism.
- Represent and support the Company brand at all times, maintaining a professional appearance and ensuring all associates adhere to the Company Dress Code.
- Manage merchandise presentation, keep areas clean and well-maintained, and process all merchandise with a sense of urgency.
- Execute and supervise Company operational processes as needed, including loss prevention activities and front-end supervision.
- Manage associates' break schedules, ensure equipment is working properly, maintain proper supplies, and expedite go-backs.
- Train and coach associates on cash registers, shortage control policies, and other front-end procedures.
- Maintain fitting rooms, ensure go-back compliance, and teach the "Scan and Bag" best practice.
- Perform administrative duties as assigned by the Store Manager, including cash pulls, bank deposits, and payroll administration.
Qualifications and Special Skills Required
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Fluency in English.
- Prior customer service and supervisory experience preferred.
- Familiarity with point-of-sale equipment and applications.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to use all store equipment, including PDTs, registers, and PCs as required.
- Ability to spend up to 100% of working time standing, walking, and moving around the store.
- Ability to regularly bend at the waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop.
- Ability to occasionally push, pull, and lift more than 25 lbs.
- Ability to use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other assigned supplies.
