About the role
Area Supervisor is a member of the Store Leadership responsible for a specific assigned area of the Store as well as general operations and supervision when functioning as Manager on Duty. Area Supervisors open and close the Store, supervise Associates, maintain a friendly easy-to-shop environment, ensure proper merchandise presentation, maintain a clean work area, and execute and supervise Company operational processes as needed.
Responsibilities
- Maintain safe and secure environments by practicing safe behaviors, maintaining awareness on the sales floor, and correcting or reporting unsafe conditions
- Responsible for building security including entrance/exit control, EAS device function checks, Cash Office security, armored carrier pick-ups, register area security, and ensuring clear egress to emergency exits
- Responsible for customer safety including accident prevention, accident reporting, emergency procedures, and testing fire alarm systems as scheduled
- Respond to after-hours alarms when requested
- Treat all Customers, Associates, and other leaders with respect; demonstrate courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times
- Recognize Associates using Company recognition programs
- Represent and support the Company brand; maintain professional appearance per Dress Code and ensure all Associates do the same
- Keep all areas of the Store clean, well-maintained, and merchandised to standard; responsible for daily trash removal
- Ensure recovery, sizing, and markdowns are completed to Company standards through teaching, assigning tasks, and following up
- Responsible for receiving merchandise truck when needed; process all merchandise with a sense of urgency
- Receive all non-merchandise inbound deliveries (signs, supplies, special deliveries, etc.)
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of all Stockrooms; deliver and place merchandise on sales floor when processing is complete
- Ensure back-stock is secured and processed to Company policy
- Responsible for merchandising of department including back stock; reduce loss due to damage; ensure compliance with monthly presentation guidelines in assigned area
- Responsible for floor moves and signing including promotional signing; handle re-wraps as needed
- Understand and comply with Loss Prevention Awareness Program; maintain large Customer service presence, engage with Customers and Associates, and maintain heightened Loss Prevention awareness
- Demonstrate integrity and honesty; safeguard confidential information, cash, credit card information, and merchandise
- Ensure Public View Monitor (PVM) system is maintained properly; conduct "Code 50" package inspections
- Execute all Company Best Practices and maximize productivity by minimizing steps and touches while working
- Execute Front End operations to Company standards; maintain pace, energy, and presence at the Front End; manage the line to expedite Customer wait time
- Train and coach Associates on cash registers, shortage control policies, and Front End procedures; control Retail Associates' break schedule for backups, lunches, and breaks
- Ensure all equipment is working properly; maintain supplies and recovery for Front End area
- Ensure go-backs are expedited, properly scanned, security tagged, and ticketed; teach "Scan and Bag" best practice
- Ensure salability of merchandise on Front End, aisle tables, Men's/Women's 4-way features, and specialty racks
- Maintain cleanliness of Fitting Rooms; ensure all Fitting Room garment tags are audited and accounted for to Company policy
- Ensure go-back compliance throughout the day; all merchandise returned to sales floor must be ticketed, scanned, nubbed, and security tagged as needed
- Ensure Cash pulls and bank deposits are conducted to Company policy; handle Front End control when needed
- Understand and adhere to policies regarding refund approval, Associate purchase approval, securing tills and cash in safe, register Paid Outs/Ins, void approval, register media, and break schedules
- Responsible for payroll administration including daily punch edits, Associate scheduling compliance, Sunday payroll transmission, and Payroll reporting as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned by Store Manager
Qualifications
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Fluency in English
- Prior Customer Service and supervisory experience preferred
- Familiarity with point-of-sale equipment and applications
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments
- Ability to work evenings and weekends
Physical requirements
- Ability to use all Store equipment, including PDTs, registers, and PC as required
- Ability to spend up to 100% of working time standing, walking, and moving around the Store
- Ability to regularly bend at the waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop
- Ability to occasionally push, pull, and lift more than 25 lbs
- Ability to use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other assigned supplies
- For Stockroom shifts: ability to regularly push, pull, and lift more than 20 lbs
