About the role
The Area Supervisor plays a crucial role within the Store Leadership team at Ross, focusing on specific areas of the store and overseeing general operations and staff. This position requires a deep understanding of safety, customer service, merchandising, loss prevention, and front-end supervision.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a safe and secure shopping environment by immediately correcting or reporting any unsafe conditions or practices.
- Ensure proper merchandise presentation and maintain a clean work area at all times.
- Execute and supervise Company operational processes as needed.
- Manage customer safety, accident prevention, and emergency procedures.
- Test fire alarm systems as scheduled and respond to after-hours alarms when requested.
- Treat all customers, associates, and leaders with respect, demonstrating courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism.
- Represent and support the Company brand at all times, maintaining a professional appearance and ensuring all areas of the store are clean and merchandised to standard.
- Process all merchandise with a sense of urgency, handle non-merchandise inbound deliveries, and ensure back-stock is secured and processed to Company policy.
- Ensure compliance with monthly presentation guidelines in assigned area and execute floor moves and signing as needed.
- Manage the Fitting Rooms, ensuring all garments are audited and accounted for to Company policy and merchandise returned to the sales floor is ticketed, scanned, nubbed, and security tagged as needed.
- Execute Company Best Practices and maximize productivity by minimizing steps and extra touches when working.
- Train and coach Associates on cash registers, shortage control policies, and other Front End procedures.
- Control Retail Associates' break schedule for backups, lunches, and breaks, ensuring proper supplies and recovery for the Front End area.
- Ensure go backs are expedited, properly scanned, security tagged, and ticketed.
- Teach all Associates the "Scan and Bag" best practice and ensure salability of merchandise on the Front End, aisle tables, Men's/Women's 4-way features, and specialty racks.
- Manage Cash pulls and bank deposits according to Company policy, understand and adhere to refund approval, Associate purchase approval, securing tills and cash in safe, register Paid Outs/Ins, void approval, register media, and break schedules.
- Administer payroll administration including daily punch edits, Associate scheduling compliance, Sunday payroll transmission, and Payroll reporting as needed.
Qualifications and Special Skills Required
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Fluency in English.
- Prior Customer Service and supervisory experience preferred.
- Familiarity with point-of-sale equipment and applications.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to use all Store equipment, including PDTs, registers, and PC as required.
- Ability to spend up to 100% of working time standing, walking, and moving around the Store.
- Ability to regularly bend at the waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop.
- Ability to occasionally push, pull, and lift more than 25 lbs.
- Ability to use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other assigned supplies.
