About the role
The Area Manufacturing Excellence (ME) Leader reports directly to the Manager of Manufacturing Excellence (MME). This role is responsible for the Manufacturing Excellence process, driving year-over-year (YOY) continuous improvement in safety, quality, productivity, reliability, and cost reduction. A minimum of 80% of the ME Leader’s time will focus on Deliberate Improvement while maintaining awareness of the mill’s day-to-day issues to ensure proactive, long-term progress. The role requires close coordination with Business Unit Managers, Area Managers, and improvement resources to align and execute the department’s improvement plan.
Responsibilities
- Provide visible and active leadership in delivering excellent safety results.
- Serve as a dedicated leader for deliberate improvement project identification and execution.
- Provide guidance and priority setting for Process Engineers.
- Drive mill initiatives to engage all employees in improvement activities and the utilization of Lean Six Sigma tools.
- Lead or support ME efforts for project teams on budget initiatives.
- Coordinate the identification, initiation, development, and implementation of cost-reduction capital opportunities, ensuring results tracking.
- Support the capital FEL process, particularly at the FEL 1/analysis and implementation levels.
- Advocate for sustainable improvement practices and systems.
- Assist operations with troubleshooting problems using appropriate ME tools.
- Support cross-departmental projects and initiatives.
- Identify and deliver sustainable cost savings through deliberate and continuous improvement efforts.
- Train salaried and hourly employees to develop ME skills.
- Influence Business Unit operations teams to incorporate ME systems and processes to sustain improvements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
- 5+ years of manufacturing experience preferred.
- Lean manufacturing experience required.
- Managerial experience in manufacturing is required.
- Six Sigma Green Belt certification preferred; willingness to complete Green Belt training is necessary.
- Experience with continuous improvement concepts and tools.
Skills
- Proficient in MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, PI ProcessBook, Proficy, SAP, and Microsoft Project.
- Minitab proficiency is a plus.
