About the role

The operational business unit is the heart of Amazon. This essential part of our company ensures that we can efficiently ship orders so that our customers receive their items in time. As an Area Manager:in, you ensure that all processes at your site function smoothly, allowing us to meet customer demand. You lead a team responsible for ensuring the safety, efficiency, and top-notch quality of our operations. Additionally, you oversee a series of projects across our entire network to enhance productivity.

Key job responsibilities

  • Create, supervise, and foster a culture of safety and well-being
  • Analyze and implement changes to continuously ensure high quality and productivity
  • Supervise projects aimed at streamlining processes, optimizing productivity, and improving service quality within your responsibility area
  • Analyze shifts according to corporate guidelines and implement measures to improve our Operational Excellence
  • Collaborate with colleagues at leadership levels to unify shift procedures

A day in the life

You work in a shift-based system at one of our sites and ensure that the processes there are as productive as possible. Your primary focus is leading and fostering a safety culture and maintaining the quality and performance standards of the work shifts. You also oversee process improvements in your area and organize their implementation. A typical workday can vary greatly and encompasses both routine team management and daily operational tasks as well as process improvement and extensive operational tasks for emergencies. Additionally, you act as a role model and mentor for new managers.

Starting with fulfilling customer orders (Customer Fulfillment or CF), Amazon transformed from a team of book sellers to a highly skilled global team processing over 1.5 million orders daily. The team forms the foundation of our business and helped us expand into new regions and services. With the advent of emerging technology, we continually seek ways to offer a larger and better selection of products – delivered quickly and affordably.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Leadership experience
  • Relevant experience in communicating with various stakeholders, including colleagues and leaders
  • Relevant experience using data or anecdotes to justify business decisions
  • Advanced proficiency in English and German in both written and spoken forms

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Lean-, Six-Sigma-, and Kaizen-methodologies
  • Experience working in another logistics field
  • Experience using the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) in a professional setting
