Overview
The Area HSE Specialist assists in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment for all employees through supervision and administration of safety for Business Unit projects.
Responsibilities
- Participates in developing and conducting field safety orientation training.
- Daily inspection of machinery, equipment, and working conditions to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and safe work practices.
- Observes workers to determine appropriate use of prescribed safety equipment.
- Inspection of specified areas for fire-prevention equipment, first-aid supplies, and other safety devices.
- Tests working areas for hazard exposures (noise, toxic, etc.) using associated testing equipment.
- Prepares reports of findings with recommendations for corrective action.
- Investigation of accidents per program procedures to establish root cause for use in recommending preventive safety measures.
- Documenting all accidents, safety violations, unsafe conditions or behavior.
- Assists in development of standardized job safety analysis (JSA), corporate safety and health management program (SHMP), as well as project specific safety plans (PSSP).
- Conducts weekly safety meetings with workers to instruct them on company/project safety practices and requirements.
- Performs office or nonmanual work directly related to the management or general business operations of the employer or the employer’s customers.
- Exercises discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance in their area of responsibility.
- Regularly interacts with area Operational counterparts regarding trends and work activity.
Qualifications
- Recognized Safety Certification.
- 5 years of previous construction experience.
- 1 year of previous experience as on-site safety person.
- First Aid, CPR, and AED Trainer.
- Specific mobile equipment trainer.
- Working knowledge of government regulations, hazard control methods, and industrial hygiene.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct training and influence organizational behavior.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Detail-oriented and willing to tackle various ongoing projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Versed in the industry and the Company’s competitors.
- Ability to multitask and perform duties outside of the scope of work when necessary.
