Location: Savannah, TN – Department of Agriculture, Highland Rim District (Hardin and Wayne Counties).

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in forestry or a similar natural-resource curriculum that includes dendrology, forest measurements, silviculture, and forest management.
• Two years of professional experience in forestry, wildlife, natural resources, or related work.

Substitution of Education for Experience:

• Graduate coursework in forestry, wildlife, natural resources, or related work may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis, up to a maximum of one year (e.g., 12 graduate semester hours = one year of experience).

Necessary Special Qualifications:

• Valid vehicle operator’s license (required in some positions).
• Commercial Pesticide Applicator Certification (required in some positions).
• Pass a physical-fitness test for participation in wildland and prescribed-fire activities (required in some positions).

Responsibilities

• Supervise subordinates: conduct performance evaluations, manage time, and schedule daily activities (fire prevention, facility maintenance, forestry programs, state-forest activities, vendor services).
• Develop and interpret forest-management plan data (site index, basal area, soil information, etc.) to support sound decisions.
• Interpret and communicate state-forest rules and burning-law regulations to government agencies and citizens to improve compliance and understanding.
• Assist urban and community partners with urban-forest management plans, technical support for urban-forest health, and urban-forestry incentive programs.
• Support wildland-fire response, prescribed-fire application, and all-hazard incidents.
• Collect and analyze forest-inventory data (tree/site data, landowner information, invasive/exotic species, pathogens).
• Administer timber sales and ensure compliance with state policies for disposal of state property.
• Monitor logging activities and perform water-quality checks on public and private land; enforce best-management practices and agency regulations; resolve water-quality complaints.
• Use GIS software to analyze spatial data, develop mapping products, create forest-management plans, and manage reporting data.
• Attend required training and maintain certifications (safety, firefighting, pesticide application).

Pay

Monthly: $4,562.00 | Annually: $54,744.00.

Full-time.

• Valid driver’s license.
• No DUI, reckless-driving, or license-suspension violations in the past five years.
• No more than four moving violations in the past five years.
