About the role
The Fleet Supervisor will work closely with the Area Fleet Manager to develop and maintain fleet strategies and management systems. This position is responsible for working with Plant Management and Plant Logistics to meet the company’s overall objectives related to service and cost, as well as being accountable for providing a safe and legal operation of the private truck fleet.
The Fleet Supervisor is responsible for drivers, equipment, scheduling, and safe operation in assisting customers to attain goals related to raw material pick-up and delivery, customer deliveries, and operation coordination. They establish and promote a safe, accident-free, and healthy work environment.
Responsibilities
- Assure that the truck fleet operation exceeds all safety performance standards set by the industry and the company.
- Ensure all DOT requirements are met, including driver's logs, certifications, and training.
- Monitor all safety issues on GAF property and on the road to ensure compliance with corporate and plant safety rules, DOT safety, and OSHA rules and regulations.
- Complete Supervisor's Reports and conduct investigations for all accidents or injuries involving drivers or equipment.
- Provide ongoing safety training, meetings, safety documents, posters, and safety campaigns.
- Work with the Customer’s Production Scheduler/Planner to coordinate pick-up and delivery of raw materials, ensuring no production downtime due to inventory availability.
- Work with the Customer Transportation Planner/Logistics Manager to coordinate timely delivery of finished products to the customer base.
- Provide shuttling needs for the Customer’s offsite storage based on plant capacity and/or inventory balancing.
- Efficiently control fleet drivers, tractors, trailers, vans, and tankers within budget requirements.
- Audit and review fuel receipts, mileage and fuel reports, driver log books, DVIRs for maintenance and repair needs, delivery and shuttle sheets, in and out times, time sheets, pre- and post-trip reports.
- Tender shipping loads for full fleet utilization and ensure proof of delivery documentation is maintained within GPS; update status reports as required.
- Provide reverse logistics options to the Plants as required.
- Manage, evaluate, and discipline employees in accordance with corporate and vendor policy and procedure.
- Schedule driver work shifts, monitor employee attendance, and process employee time for payroll.
- Work with designated vendors to manage and select drivers; perform new hire training, evaluation, and qualifying; provide ongoing training and evaluation.
- Work with designated vendors to manage equipment repair costs; actively manage, negotiate, and schedule repair and service activities; vet all repair and service invoices and address concerns with vendors.
- Continually improve, expand, or curtail fleet operations (right-size) as business conditions dictate.
- Routinely communicate with management regarding fleet activity, condition, markets, concerns, and changing needs.
- Continually work to identify savings and capture fleet operational savings opportunities.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or Supply Chain/Logistics preferred.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in fleet operations preferred.
- 2+ years of experience with associated vendors (drivers, equipment, operations, etc.) preferred.
Pay
Base Salary Range: $68,000–$93,500. Individual compensation offers will be determined based on geographic location, relevant candidate experience, skills, education, and qualifications.
