Area Director - Gloucester County

Young Life requires all employees to sign a Statement of Faith. Employees and volunteers must profess a belief in Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and Lord, subscribe to Young Life’s statements and policies, and adhere to biblical standards and ministry activities both during and outside working hours.

About the role

Gloucester County Young Life is seeking an energetic, responsible, and directed leader who loves Jesus and wants to develop others while sharing the Gospel with adolescents in Gloucester County, NJ. Gloucester County is a suburban area 20 minutes outside Philadelphia, with a dynamic Young Life presence since 1982. The area serves high school students, middle school students, teen moms, and students with disabilities, with opportunities to expand into neighboring towns and new specialty ministries. The area has 27 school districts, strong financial support, and a long history of healthy ministry.

Must live in or be willing to move to Gloucester County, NJ.

Responsibilities

Spiritual Development

• Develop a yearly personal growth plan fostering a vibrant spiritual life, including solitude, retreat, reflection, prayer, and commitment to understanding God’s Word.
• Seek and maintain relationships and disciplines within an active church community.
• Actively participate in the spiritual life of the Young Life community.
• Lead teams and individuals in spiritual development.

Leadership Development

• Oversee, lead, and train over 20 leaders across multiple ministries.
• Recruit and train new leaders for existing and new ministries.
• Model excellence in contact work, club, campaigners, and camping.
• Engage in weekly contact work, club meetings, and campaigner meetings during the school semester (campaigners continue through summer).
• Organize a weekend camp in November for high school students.
• Organize a weekend camp in March for discipleship with high school students.
• Organize a week-long summer camp with high school students.

Direct Ministry

• Actively engage in all three levels of contact work.
• Lead a team to plan and conduct a new or existing Young Life club and Campaigners/discipleship ministry.
• Lead a team to implement a summer and school-season camping strategy.
• Serve on a summer assignment at a Young Life camp each year.

Ministry Support

• Adhere to all Young Life policies and procedures, maintaining professionalism in office hours, dress, conduct, and time management.
• Manage finances with stewardship, accountability, and transparency using mission-wide applications.
• Maintain accurate records of kids, leaders, and donors.
• Provide clear, prompt, and professional communication to everyone involved in ministry.
• Set and review a yearly strategic ministry plan to reach every kid.
• Perform other duties as assigned, congruent with gifts, experience, and area needs.

Training

• Complete Core Training (Phase One) within the first two years, including New Staff Training, Leadership I, Leadership II, Apologetics, and one Winter Training course.
• Training may be supervised by a regional director, regional trainer, or area to develop personal spiritual maturity and enhance character.
• Participate in regional training days and overnight retreats.

Requirements

• Experience in direct ministry.
• Proven relational skills with both kids and adults.
• Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to work closely with a vibrant committee and strong area admin.
• Demonstrated spiritual leadership and organizational skills.
• Skills needed to supervise and train others.

Qualifications

College degree preferred.
