About the Role
The Area Assistant Director of Finance at The Nines, Portland supervises and coordinates the Accounting Operations in the hotel to ensure accurate, timely, and consistent reporting in accordance with policies, procedures, and federal, state, and local laws. This role assists and supports the Director of Finance in maintaining control over income, expenses, assets, and liabilities of the hotel. Responsibilities include overseeing daily operations of Payroll, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Income Journal, General Cashiering, Taxes, and internal controls, as well as recommending and implementing operational changes.
Responsibilities
- Supervise Payroll, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Cashier, and Night Audit employees, including hiring recommendations, training, scheduling, performance reviews, and disciplinary actions.
- Oversee daily accounting operations to ensure compliance with SOPs and federal, state, and local laws.
- Analyze and reconcile all general ledger accounts and bank statements to ensure accuracy of financial information.
- Prepare financial statements and reports for management.
- Assist in compiling and preparing the annual budget, forecasts, taxes, and other financial reports.
- Train, monitor, and coordinate financial and cash controls across hotel departments to ensure compliance and minimize liabilities.
- Resolve problems and maintain accounting systems and equipment for smooth operations.
- Analyze tenant leases, rent reports, and ensure compliance with hotel leases and management contracts.
- Assume fiduciary responsibility to the company and management.
- Act as the Director of Finance in their absence.
Requirements
- A four-year college degree (accounting preferred) or equivalent education/experience.
- One to two years of employment in hospitality management or hospitality accounting.
- Knowledge of all functions performed by subordinate roles reporting to the Hotel Director of Finance.
- Advanced knowledge of accounting, finance, and hospitality professions.
- Ability to analyze activities or information involving original data manipulation or interpretation.
- Strong decision-making skills guided by established policies and procedures.
- Excellent communication, supervisory, and training skills.
- Proficiency in office management, bank reconciliations, preparation of state and federal reports, and training accounting staff.
- Experience in conducting meetings, analyzing balance sheet accounts, preparing journal entries, and closing books.
- Strong interviewing and evaluation skills for applicants and current employees.

- Excellent hearing, vision, speech communication, comprehension, and literacy for reports, computers, and ledgers.
Physical Demands
- Limited lifting, pushing, pulling, or carrying up to 15-20 lbs (e.g., boxes, computer equipment).
- Limited bending/kneeling when arranging supplies or equipment.

Work inside 95% of the work period.

USD $90,000.00 - USD $110,000.00 per year.
