About the Role

Ancestry is seeking a project-based temporary Archival Digitization Specialist for a contract position in Boston, MA. This is a full-time role (40 hours/week) with a schedule of Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM, lasting approximately 1+ years. This is an on-site position and does not offer remote work or Ancestry benefits.

Compensation: $20 per hour. Must clear a background check. Start date: ASAP.

Responsibilities

  • Capture digital images of documents as specified by the company.
  • Perform quality audits on each scanned roll before transmission.
  • Report progress, quality audit notes, and enter data into spreadsheets (including maintaining complex spreadsheets).
  • Initiate and maintain responsibility for the delivery or transmission of images to the corporate office.
  • Perform regular equipment maintenance and coordinate machine maintenance with third-party hardware service providers.
  • Perform basic image enhancement and file organization tasks.
  • Maintain professional relationships with partners to protect the image and mission of Ancestry.com.
  • Handle miscellaneous tasks related to the project as they arise.

Requirements

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and determine project urgency in a practical way.
  • Experience anticipating problems and finding creative solutions.
  • Experience with scanning and editing equipment, procedures, and materials.
  • Background in Photography, Library and Archives, or History.
  • Technical proficiency with digitization and archival documents.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently in a focused, repetitive task environment.
