About the role

The University of California, Berkeley is seeking a collaborative, creative, and service-oriented Architecture & Design Librarian to join the Social Sciences Division.

Responsibilities

  • Establish strong relationships with faculty and students
  • Conduct analysis and assessment of user needs
  • Create collections of digital, print, and data resources
  • Provide virtual and in-person research consultations
  • Offer customized in-person and remote instruction
  • Develop instructional materials in a variety of formats
  • Promote library resources and services to support Berkeley’s teaching and research
  • Serve as the liaison to the College of Environmental Design
  • Provide collections and research support for a diverse group of undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty, and practitioners studying all aspects of the built environment
  • Collaborate with colleagues to provide support related to data, digital scholarship, digital and information literacy, GIS, and scholarly communications
  • Build, manage, and make accessible collections housed in, and related to, the Environmental Design Library
  • Identify items for the Library’s shared print and preservation initiatives
  • Review donations and propose digitization projects
  • Made deselection decisions
  • Contribute to the broader guidance of the Social Sciences Division’s collection strategies, policies, and projects

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Library Science or a related field from an ALA-accredited program
  • Experience in academic libraries preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of digital and information literacy, GIS, and scholarly communications
  • Experience with collection management and building diverse collections

  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
