Architectural Designer
About the role
You will have the opportunity to have a positive impact on communities in the Mid-Atlantic through our educational design studio in Charlottesville, VA. Specifically, you’ll be working with experienced school planners, architects, and interior designers to design, document, and administer construction on PreK, elementary, middle, high school, education specialty facility projects. This building type presents a unique opportunity to engage with key decision makers at the community and school division leadership levels as well as work with internal team members in studios across the northeast. While you shape buildings, you’ll be shaping the future for generations of students, teachers, and communities.
Responsibilities
- Participate in team meetings, design charrettes, meetings with clients, and consultant coordination sessions.
- Attend project coordination and meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants.
- Aid in site analysis, research of concept, benchmarks, typology, and precedents.
- Aid project teams in the development of a design through sketches, physical models, electronic models, diagrams, massing studies, and other visual formats.
- Utilize Autodesk Revit and other BIM technologies in the development of three-dimensional models of buildings and their components.
- Prepare and revise documentation in various architectural phases including site plans, floor plans, building elevations, building sections, and details.
- Implement sustainable design principles into the building design and surrounding environment.
- Cook up building systems (structural, mechanical, electrical, etc.) to ensure compatibility with the design intent.

- Keep the Project Manager informed of progress on expectations, deadlines, and deliverables that fall within their responsibility.
- Assist in contract administration tasks.
- Contribute to the overall esprit de corps of a vibrant, vibing, busy studio.
Requirements
- Capable of simultaneously supporting multiple Project Managers on multiple projects.
- General understanding of accessibility codes, life-safety codes, building construction systems, means and methods, materials, and industry-related standards.
- Comfortable working independently and taking direction well; however, proactively taking appropriate action without requiring continued direction.
- Able to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
- Team player with the client, project team, and contractor.
- Strong communicator.
- Requires proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, InDesign and Photoshop.
- Experience with Enscape, SketchUP, Newforma preferred.
- K-12 education sector experience a plus, but not a requirement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture.
- 3-7 years of related work experience.
- LEED Green Associate, LEED AP, WELL, and/or ALEP preferred.
Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, InDesign and Photoshop.
- Experience with Enscape, SketchUP, Newforma preferred.
- K-12 education sector experience a plus, but not a requirement.

Pay
$71,800.00 - $104,100.00 Annually
