Architectural Designer
About the role
The Architectural Designer is a member of the design studio to provide architectural services to Sevan's clients nationwide. A design professional, accountable for producing accurate design and construction documents for retail and/or restaurant (commercial) multi-site clients and supporting other team members in achieving team goals.
Responsibilities
- Prepares complete, accurate and code compliant construction documents.
- Performs assignments under direction and supervisory approval of others for all projects.
- Provides technical and creative design solutions that align with program intent.
- Applies client’s program requirements and design criteria to existing buildings and structures.
- Determines the appropriate building components and their design application.
- Maintains project schedules, deadlines and commitments for small and medium-scope assignments of average difficulty.
- Notifies supervisor of changes in project scope and advises if a change order proposal is needed.
- Collaborates with consultants, contractors, fabricators, specification writers, and regulatory agencies to meet overall project objectives.
- Possesses a working knowledge of building codes and ADA requirements.
- Conducts project due diligence with municipalities to determine local zoning and building code requirements.
- Resolves plan review comments from code officials.
- Affords assistance to the project liaison to code officials, outside consultants, suppliers, and contractors regarding questions to the construction documents.
- Adheres to CAD standards and follows assigned drafting protocol across all projects.
- Receives feedback and direction from others.
- Works with supervisor and peers to pursue professional development.
- Participates in NCARB’s Architectural Experience Program (AXP) Program.
- Accountable for timely completion of assigned projects.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently on simple to moderately difficult projects.
- Capable to prioritize and work on multiple projects at the same time.
- Assists in other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Engineering, or equivalent.
- 3+ years related professional experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Comprehensive knowledge of architectural principles, practices, and advanced techniques.
- Expertise in drawings, specifications, and building materials.
- Capable of completing moderately difficult architectural assignments with minimal supervision.
- Ability to execute and coordinate multiple projects at a time.
- Experience in multi-site projects preferred.
- Successful employees work on multiple projects of various scope and duration, can quickly change direction to meet aggressive deadlines, and work with limited supervision.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD (required), Revit (preferred), Illustrator, Photoshop, SketchUp, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Smartsheet. 3ds Max is a plus.
Benefits
- Pay Range: $65,000 - $75,000 based on a full-time schedule, market and business conditions, and is commensurate on individual education, qualifications, and experience.

- This is a hybrid role out of our Downers Grove, IL headquarters.

- Able to work remotely in a home office setting and manage time effectively with multiple projects and deadlines.
- Travel on an as needed basis (0-10%).
- Regularly required to sit; occasionally required to stand; walk; occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
