Architect II - Enterprise Solutions
About the role
This role develops and owns end-to-end solution design strategies for the enterprise Semantic Layer program, built on Microsoft Fabric and Power BI.
Responsibilities
Develop and own semantic models in Microsoft Fabric (Direct Lake, composite models, and import mode) for each business workstream including Finance, Operations, Marketing, HR, and Technology.
Establish workstream-specific model standards, certified dataset patterns, and reusable measure libraries.
Define and enforce semantic layer governance frameworks including dataset certification workflows, row-level security (RLS), object-level security (OLS), and sensitivity label policies.
Partner with Audit and Finance to ensure SOX-compliant lineage, access controls, and change management processes for financial reporting models.
Architect interoperability between Microsoft Fabric semantic models and downstream consumption tools including third-party BI platforms (Tableau, Qlik Sense, MicroStrategy, Grafana, and others), Anthropic-based AI/LLM applications (Claude), and Excel.
Engage workstream leads, data owners, and senior management to translate business requirements into semantic model designs.
Lead architectural trade-off discussions and present options for data modeling approaches (star schema, composite models, aggregation tables).
Serve as the primary point of escalation for semantic layer design decisions.
Qualifications
Education: Equivalent experience required, Bachelor's Degree preferred in Computer Science, IT, Computer Engineering, Data Engineering, or related field.
Years of Experience: 7-10 years progressive experience in enterprise data architecture, analytics engineering, or BI platform leadership.
Experience: Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric including Lakehouses, Direct Lake semantic models, Dataflows Gen2, Data Pipelines, and the Fabric OneLake architecture.
Power BI semantic model development: DAX authoring, composite models, aggregation tables, incremental refresh, and deployment pipelines.
Governance experience: dataset certification, workspace governance, RLS/OLS implementation, sensitivity labels, and data catalog/governance tooling integration (e.g., Microsoft Purview, Alation, Collibra, or equivalent).
SOX compliance for financial data systems including audit trail design, change management controls, access reviews, and lineage documentation.
Experience connecting third-party BI and analytics tools (e.g., Tableau, Qlik Sense, MicroStrategy, Grafana) to XMLA-compatible semantic models including live connection architecture, security passthrough, and performance tuning.
Experience integrating AI/LLM tools (e.g., Anthropic Claude, Azure OpenAI) with structured data sources or semantic layer APIs for natural language querying or embedded analytics.
Experience leading solution architecture and design reviews across multiple business workstreams with demonstrated executive presence.
