About the role

The Retail Architect position is specific to Cyntergy’s retail building programs and would oversee and plan all architectural aspects of building design and construction projects. This role uses familiarity with a variety of concepts, prototype practices, procedures, and associated engineering discipline work. It performs a variety of complex tasks, relying on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals, leads and directs the work of others with a wide degree of creativity and latitude, and is intended to serve as an experienced architect capable of handling and overseeing entire projects through the architectural design and document production process.

Responsibilities

  • Make decisions on significant architectural design problems and methods.
  • Interface directly with client representatives on a regular basis.
  • Understand and facilitate prototype assembly and maintenance; implement change management and tracking into prototypes and project deliveries.
  • Regularly interpret and apply relevant codes, criteria, jurisdictional or other project factors into project documentation.
  • Actively supervise project budgets, schedules and programs, project communications and documentation, and project team assignments to ensure efficient, cost-effective and timely execution.
  • Interface with other in-house project disciplines to ensure cohesive and coordinated design documentation and solutions.
  • Estimate or oversee development of design fees and determine scope of work in preparation of proposals and contracts for assigned project work.
  • Handle or assign specific technical design aspects of a project, including investigating, evaluating, and recommending design solutions and material selections that best meet the client’s needs.
  • Act as an architectural project leader, including supervising and evaluating the work of other architects and technicians.
  • Work closely with the Quality Control Manager to ensure projects meet standards and accuracy.
  • Participate in client presentations before or during project delivery as needed.
  • Perform project or program management on selected projects or programs as needed.
  • Participate in marketing activities as required.

Required Skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to communicate well with clients and internal staff.
  • Ability to prepare proposals for projects, including estimating fees.
  • Expert with industry standards for practice of architecture and design.
  • Familiarity with current design trends, materials, detailing and construction practices.
  • Sustainable design and/or LEED-relevant knowledge preferred.
  • Expertise, experience and assertiveness in mentoring younger staff.
  • Working and/or advanced knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit software.
  • Experienced using Outlook and other Microsoft Office software.
