About the role
Kleinfelder is seeking qualified field staff for archaeological surveys and monitoring in various locations of NorCal to work on a flex basis. These positions are "remote," meaning you can align to either our San Jose or San Francisco offices. You do have to be local to the NorCal area to complete the assigned field work.
Responsibilities
- Independently identify prehistoric and historic-era cultural resources in the field.
- Participate in cultural resources field projects in California with at least 2 years of experience.
- Communicate effectively and respond quickly while working in the field.
- Work alongside Native American monitors in the field.
- Stand for long periods of time and hike long distances in rugged conditions.
- Use digital field technology (GPS, total station, iPad etc.) and GIS applications and software.
- Prepare Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) 523 forms, monitoring logs, and survey report forms.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a closely related field.
- The ability to independently identify prehistoric and historic-era cultural resources in the field.
- 0 - 3 years of progressive experience participating in cultural resources field projects in California, with a minimum of 2 years being ideal.
- Excellent interpersonal communication and attention to detail.
- Strong writing skills and clarity in notetaking.
- Experience with MS Office.
- Experience working on state and federal lands.
- Experience working alongside Native American monitors in the field.
- The ability to work both independently and with a team.
- A California driver's license is required.
- A satisfactory driving record and completion of a background check.

The expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the California Pay Transparency Law. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.
