Kemp has announced the Building Solutions business unit of global steelmaker ArcelorMittal will establish its North American headquarters and a new manufacturing facility in Bibb County in that state. An initial investment will involve more than $55 million and bring up to 70 new jobs to the county, with plans for an additional $50 million in investments and as many as 70 more jobs over the next several years, according to the governor’s office. Bibb County has Macon as its largest city and is in the central part of the state. “As Georgia continues to break economic records, ArcelorMittal Building Solutions’ new manufacturing facility comes at the right time to help meet growing demand across the state,” says Kemp. “[Its] decision to establish the North American headquarters in Macon-Bibb is also further proof that Georgia is the best place for business and opportunity, well beyond our state borders.” ArcelorMittal took full ownership of a recycled-content electric arc furnace (EAF) mill in Calvert, Alabama, last year, acquiring it from United States Steel as that firm was sold to Japan’s Nippon Steel Corp. At the start of the decade, Luxembourg-based ArcelorMittal sold its blast furnace/basic oxygen furnace mills to Cleveland-Cliffs Inc., as well as two EAF mills in Pennsylvania. Now, ArcelorMittal says the investment in Georgia “will build on ArcelorMittal’s longstanding presence in the United States, which includes world-class steelmaking, finishing, manufacturing, research and development, and sales/support locations that employ more than 3,200 people across nine states.” ArcelorMittal Building Solutions designs and manufactures building envelope systems used to insulate and protect warehouses, factories, data centers and commercial buildings, says the firm. “This investment in Macon, Georgia, marks the launch of ArcelorMittal Building Solutions in North America,” says Jean Christophe Kennel, CEO of ArcelorMittal Building Solutions. “We see strong and sustained demand for high-performance building solutions, driven by growth in logistics, manufacturing and data center infrastructure.” He continues, “We are bringing advanced insulated panel manufacturing closer to our customers, with a focus on speed, reliability, and consistent quality. This investment reflects ArcelorMittal Building Solutions’ long-term ambition to build a sustainable and competitive presence in the U.S. market.” The planned facility, to be located near Macon’s airport, will serve as ArcelorMittal Building Solutions’ regional headquarters and manufacturing operation and include a new training facility. The governor’s office says it expects construction to begin later this year, with operations targeted to commence in the second half of next year, “subject to customary permitting and approvals.” Sponsored Content The SENNEBOGEN 360 G-Series: Equipped for today’s work environment Optimal productivity, heavy construction, safety features and operator comfort come together in the SENNEBOGEN 360 G-series telescopic wheel loader, designed for work across the waste and recycling industry.
