Responsibilities

  • Aid in creating a pleasant and hospitable work environment and maintain good customer relationships.
  • Assist with store operations as required.
  • Serve all customers in a courteous and efficient manner.
  • Handle all donations with care and donors with respect and courtesy.
  • Handle merchandise as directed, always maintaining proper categories and colorization.
  • Maintain the store sufficiently stocked and “ragged out” according to the “ARC COMMAND RAG OUT CALENDAR.”
  • Assist in cleaning and general maintenance of store property.
  • Immediately report theft, customer complaints, injuries, and any unsafe equipment or conditions to management.
  • Maintain a clean and clutter-free work area.
  • Be well-versed in and comply with the Guide to Thrift Store & Donation Center Operations manual.
  • Support the work therapy program component of The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Centers by providing professional conduct, work habits, and supervision (as directed by Supervisor).
  • Perform cashier/sales floor duties including cash handling, sorting, pricing, stocking, and restocking merchandise.
  • Run clothing racks as needed.
  • Hang and ticket clothing on rolling racks from the sorting table by department on the correct hanger type and by category in an 8-hour period.
  • Price a minimum of 250 garments an hour using a wide range of prices determined by the style, quality, and condition of each piece.
  • Sort, clean, and ticket saleable miscellaneous merchandise donations daily.
  • Process to the store a minimum of 25 pieces/sets per hour maintaining all merchandise in the required order and manner.
  • Sort, clean, and ticket saleable shoes, handbags, and accessory donations daily.
  • Sort, clean, and ticket saleable linen items daily as required.
  • Sort, clean, and ticket saleable merchandise daily as required.
  • Sort, clean, and test all electrical and furniture donations as required.
  • Complete furniture tickets and record required information assigning a fair market price for each furniture item.
  • Mark down furniture items on the sales floor in accordance with policy.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the sales floor, bathrooms, entry, windows, sidewalks, and parking areas daily.
  • Accept donations in accordance with standard policies while providing courteous, respectful service to the donor.
  • Able to lift 100 pounds.
  • Receive and receipt, as per policy, all donated material in a courteous and efficient manner.
  • Maintain cleanliness of all donation facilities.
  • Safeguard all donated materials and assigned equipment.
  • Ensure a constant flow of donations to the sorting table throughout the day.
  • Assist with ragging out the sales floor as assigned.
  • Bale ragouts and trash as required.
  • Perform lawn and garden work as needed.

Qualifications

  • Ability to speak and understand English for effective communication with supervisors, employees, beneficiaries, and customers.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to understand and follow directions.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
