--- **About the Role**

The Alachua County Arboriculture Program is offering a paid internship for students to learn about the County Arboriculture Program and tree planting and tree mitigation efforts around the county. This position is typically limited to 6 months and would assist the Program during our busiest seasons.

**Responsibilities**
  • Plant trees and prune young trees for structure
  • Assist with volunteers and special events
  • Help with routine tree maintenance
  • Become familiar with the planning and operational requirements to develop or implement a tree planting program
  • Learn best management practices for tree cultivation
  • Earn necessary work experience towards Arborist Certification eligibility
**Requirements**
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited two or four-year college or university; or at a technical school taking college-level courses for the duration of the internship
  • Successful completion of a criminal history background investigation prior to employment
**Pay**

Undergraduate Student: $18.50/hour
Graduate Student: $19.00/hour

**Schedule**
  • Hours are approximately 10 to 20 hours per week
  • Includes some weekdays and weekends for volunteer tree planting events
  • Minimum shift of 6 hours per workday
  • Work is often weather dependent

About the Role

Interns gain valuable hands-on experience planting trees, pruning young trees for structure, assisting with volunteers and special events, as well as helping with routine tree maintenance. An intern in this position would become familiar with the planning and operational requirements to develop or implement a tree planting program, in addition to best management practices for tree cultivation. An intern in this position would also earn necessary work experience towards Arborist Certification eligibility.
