Arbor Heights Elementary - Special Education Assistant (Focus) - 1.0 FTE

Responsibilities

• Adapts classroom activities, assignments, and materials under the direction of the teacher.
• Administers a variety of materials and assignments, including tests, homework, and grades papers.
• Administers first aid and provides medical assistance as required.
• Aids students with personal care needs due to medical conditions or physical limitations.
• Attends meetings and in-service presentations to acquire and convey information relevant to job functions.
• Conferences with teachers and parents to provide information related to student progress and implement IEP objectives.
• Instructs students in various activities such as academic subjects, social skills, and daily living skills.
• Maintains instructional materials and student files/records.
• Maintains a safe and positive learning environment by monitoring students during assigned periods.

Requirements

No specific years of relevant experience are required. Experience working with children is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
• Seventy-two quarter credits or forty-eight semester credits at the one hundred level or higher at an accredited college or university.
• Completed an apprenticeship as a paraeducator in a program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council.
