GENERAL PURPOSE
Performs a variety of poolside and water safety duties and instructions as needed to assure safe use of pool facilities.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the general supervision of the Aquatics Supervisor and/or Aquatics Coordinator.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
May be assigned supervisory duties as needed.
- Creates and delivers swimming lesson plans for individuals and groups;
- Evaluates swimming skills and progress according to established swimming standards and skill requirements;
- Ensures the safety of staff and program participants;
- Maintains accurate supervisor, cleaning, accident/incident and chemical reports daily.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Sufficient education and training to demonstrate an aptitude or ability to perform above and related duties;
- Six (6) months general experience related to safe swimming, aquatics program participation, working with children or related background.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- General knowledge of rules and regulations of a variety of aquatics and recreational activities, pool equipment and pool maintenance;
- Water safety practices;
- First aid, CPR, AED;
- Swimming instruction techniques;
- Public relations practices and techniques;
- Ability to demonstrate advanced swimming skills;
- Move and react quickly to a variety of circumstances;
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public;
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing;
- Demonstrate good judgment and decision-making;
- Follow written and verbal instructions and/or procedures;
- Project voice over the noise of the pool;
- Work various shifts including nights and weekends.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Incumbent of the position performs in a climate-controlled pool environment.
- Tasks require a variety of physical activities, generally involving muscular strain, such as swimming, walking, standing, stooping, lifting, sitting, reaching.
- Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts, pool mechanical systems.
- Occasionally exposed to wet conditions, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals.
- Daily exposure to slippery surfaces.
- Must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
