Responsibilities

  • Enter macroinvertebrate data into an Access database; save documents in the correct format for manager’s use.
  • After training, clean a semi-quantitative macroinvertebrate sample properly for preparation to sort and pick macroinvertebrates from debris.
  • After training, complete the headings and internal labels for all samples being processed for further analysis.
  • After training, sort and pick macroinvertebrates from the cleaned semi-quantitative samples for further analysis.
  • Permanently mount specific organisms for further identification.
  • Organize the diatom photo library for clients; name and store photos in a central location.
  • Take photos of macroinvertebrate specimens in the reference collection for clients.
  • Gather specimens for the SEMN project for verification; type information into an Excel spreadsheet, package them for shipment, and return them to storage.
  • Dispose of old samples and collect waste alcohol for disposal.
  • Review and “second check” information entered into the LIMS (laboratory information management system).
  • Assist with fish filleting (prepping area, cleaning, scaling fish); review and “second check” information on chain of custody forms after processing.
